Description & Challenges

National Grid-Saudi Arabia came up with an ambitious plan to construct 110 or 115 or 132/13.8kV indoor GIS substations anywhere in KSA based on off the shelf readymade unified design. Intention was to reduce to construction time by 6 months. They awarded this dream project to Dar Engineering to develop Standardized Design packages for detailed engineering covering design calculations, construction /detailed drawings, Bill-of-Materials, Construction scope of work and technical specifications for a new GIS substations arranged in double-bus-single breaker configuration located anywhere in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The standardized design covers substation Civil/Architectural, Electrical and Mechanical design requirements such that LSTK contractor can start construction activities of substation immediately after award of the contract with minimal modifications in standardized design.

Our thorough knowledge of the system, proficiency of SEC / NG standards and known practices of all the regions NG (COA/EOA/WOA) qualified us on top in securing this prestigious project. DAR engineering with its extensive experiences acquired in substation field over the last fifteen years provided various optimized proposals considering the suitability of unified design for all the regions. Further in close liaison with the client (NG) an optimized design had been proposed. The standardized design package is approved by NG and being implemented in two new pilot projects (Construction of DIE-4B 115/13.8kV S/S & DIE-4C 115/13.8kV) which are under construction now and more such projects are in pipeline.

Scope:

Dar Engineering involved in complete design and engineering services for Civil, Architectural, Structural, Electrical works, Mechanical works, including calculations drawings sketches, submittals, material B.O.Q. preparation, Preparation of construction scope of work and technical specification, technical advisory support and participation in meetings with NG.
