DAR Engineering Wins 2025 MEED's Best Healthcare Project of the Year in KSA for King’s College Hospital – Jeddah

DAR Engineering has been awarded the 2025 MEED's Best Healthcare Project of the Year in KSA for its work on King’s College Hospital London – Jeddah, marking the second consecutive year the company has been recognized by the prestigious MEED Projects Awards — a testament to consistent development, disciplined delivery, and sustained engineering excellence.

The award was received on behalf of the company by Shahbaz Tufail, Executive Vice President, during the MENA Winners ceremony. This achievement highlights the strong partnership between DAR Engineering and HKS, whose combined architectural, structural, and engineering expertise shaped one of the region’s most advanced healthcare facilities.

A New Healthcare Benchmark for the Western Region

King’s College Hospital – Jeddah is the first international branch of the world-renowned King’s College Hospital London in Saudi Arabia. Completed in 2024 and now fully in operation, the project introduces a new standard of integrated, world-class healthcare delivery .
The hospital incorporates four specialized institutes—Heart, Orthopedic, Women’s, and Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery—supported by 24/7 primary and comprehensive secondary care. It offers direct access to consultants from KCH London and Dubai, enabling seamless handling of complex medical cases.
Architecturally, the design blends advanced medical technology with elements inspired by Saudi heritage, creating a healing environment that enhances patient comfort and supports the attraction of top medical talent.

Engineering Excellence and Technical Achievement

DAR Engineering’s multidisciplinary footprint on the project reflects engineering rigor, code compliance, and future-ready systems design across all disciplines:

Structural Engineering
  • Column-free spaces enabling adaptable medical layouts.
  • Flooring systems selected for future flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and rapid construction.
  • Design calibrated for evolving healthcare technologies .
MEP and Life Safety Systems
  • HVAC, smoke management, medical gases, firefighting, and public health systems designed to international and Saudi codes.
  • Electrical systems compliant with NEC, NFPA, Saudi Building Code, and Ministry of Interior requirements.
  • Fully integrated emergency power, lighting control, fire detection, and lightning protection systems .
ICT & Smart Hospital Infrastructure
  • Comprehensive telecommunications backbone, nurse call, security, queue management, and BMS systems.
  • Smart guest rooms offering automation, digital wayfinding, integrated patient-staff communication, and voice-activated controls.
  • Digital appointments and EMR systems reduce time spent on forms by 50% and staff requirements by 36%, improving operational efficiency and patient experience .

Efficient Delivery and Lean Project Management

The project was delivered on time and within the agreed budget, supported by the project management oversight of Faithful & Gould and the EPC execution of Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
BIM played a central role in coordination across architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines. Combined with lean construction sequencing, the project achieved completion 15% faster than comparable facilities of similar scale — a strong indicator of DAR Engineering’s disciplined delivery model .
At peak construction, more than 1,210 personnel were deployed, supported by comprehensive safety programs and strict adherence to local and international regulations .

Sustainability and Long-Term Impact

King’s College Hospital – Jeddah contributes significant social, economic, and environmental value to the Western Region.

Social & Economic Impact

  • Expands access to specialized, world-class healthcare services.
  • Integrates Evidence-Based Design (EBD) principles to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Creates high-quality employment opportunities and attracts top-tier medical professionals to the Kingdom.
