Description & Challenges

This project is created to meet the rapidly growing demand in the southern east of Riyadh city and ensure economic operation of the system by installation of Eight (8) new 132kV cable circuits, along with its associated Non-metallic Fiber Optical Cable to integrate the new BSP S/S 9007 with the 132kV network. The scope under this project also includes 132kV feeder rearrangements with required addition / modification in Protection, SCADA and associated equipment.

This project also involves Connection of umm ul hammam substation 8175 with 132kV network in Riyadh area using Two (2) new cable circuits,

  1. Cable circuit between new S/S # 8175 and S/S # 9042
  2. Cable circuit between S/S # 8175 and S/S # 8046

Total route length of all the above 10 circuits is around 46 KM.

As projected demanded finalizing of all ten circuits simultaneously to expedite the mobilization of required resources and material well in advance many teams worked in in collaboration to meet deadline of project schedule.

Scope:

Complete design and engineering services which includes preparation of Cable Routing - Plan & Profile, Joint bay (splicing) Locations, Design calculations for SVL selection, Cable pulling tension and Side wall pressure calculations and FOC cable routing drawings and its associated civil design for communication Hand holes / man holes, joint boxes and duct banks. Review of protection modification along with relevant relay settings performed by the vendors, preparation of MTO, verifying / technical evaluation of vendor design submittals, technical advisory support and preparation of as built drawings.
